Guidelines: Co-Authorship

Authorship in academic publications is vital for recognising individual contributions and establishing accountability, with no universal standards across disciplines. Co- authors bear responsibility for evaluating their project roles, and endorsing the manuscript pertaining to their contributions.

GeoSafe encourages authorship criteria to be agreed upon early in the research process. Inclusivity should extend to early researchers and technical staff, ensuring due credit for their contributions, and collaborations with industrial partners should be acknowledged with clear authorship roles.

Proper acknowledgment of non-author contributors is also encouraged, emphasising fairness in reflecting their level of input in the acknowledgments section.
